South Africa has terminated a planned pre-export safety verification measure for goods imported from China, with the decision effective September 22, 2026, according to the Hong Kong Trade Development Council. The change removes a proposed verification step from the export compliance process for affected Chinese products.
The original plan had prompted concern among industry participants. China also opposed the measure, leading to attention from the World Trade Organization.

Ending the planned measure simplifies the compliance process by removing the proposed pre-export verification requirement. This could reduce inspection and certification costs and avoid delays associated with completing that step.
The practical benefit will depend on how the withdrawn measure would have applied to particular products and shipments. The decision concerns this specific verification plan and does not, on its own, establish that other applicable import requirements have changed.
